Dish's Hopper, Joey DVR hubs go on sale

Hub leases for $10/month with basic packages

Dish Network has reportedly begun selling its Hopper whole-home DVR system, which was first unveiled early this year at CES. The system centers around the Hopper, a set-top box that integrates a 2TB drive, and smaller 'Joey' units that serve as extenders to distribute the video throughout a home.

The Hopper integrates three satellite tuners, enabling users to simultaneously record up to six shows during primetime hours--ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC are all recorded by a single tuner and stored for up to eight days.

The Joey accessories provide a slight savings for each additional room, avoiding the need to lease multiple Hoppers. Users in four different rooms have control over live or recorded playback, including pause and rewind functions.

Dish customers can now lease the Hopper system for $10/month, plus $7/month for each Joey add-on. Subscribers who already pay for the company's America's Top 200 or DishLatino Dos packages can obtain one Hopper and up to three Joeys for free.
