Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 3.6 coming to US

updated 10:50 am EDT, Thu March 15, 2012

Galaxy S Wi-Fi 3.6 will fight iPod touch in US

The Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 3.6 introduced at last year's IFA will be making a debut in the US sometime this year, Engadget has learned on a recent trip to Samsung's Korean offices. The device would once more compete with the likes of Apple's iPod touch. The design is relatively low-cost and carries a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, a 3.65-inch, 480x320-pixel LCD, and Android 2.3.

There is otherwise a two-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front camera, as well as a microSD memory card slot. Other connections include a microUSB port and headphone connection on the bottom, like newer Apple devices. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, and an FM radio are also present. Onboard storage is expected to be the same 8GB and 16GB as in Europe.

The device went on sale in Europe last year, with a full specs page available online. The basic models start at 115 online, or the equivalent of about $180. US pricing and release dates are yet to be revealed, but could sit between $150 and $200.
