Some units could arrive early
Apple has started shipping out the updated Apple TV to people who bought it from the company's online store, according to a customer's shipping notice shared with AppleInsider. While the email states that the package should arrive on the 16th, the official launch date for the set-top, FedEx tracking data suggests it will actually arrive a day early.
Whether or not Apple will allow early Apple TV deliveries remains to be seen. Although the company can be strict in preventing some products from being delivered ahead of time, the new Apple TV is a relatively minor update, sporting 1080p video and an overhauled interface. More likely to be held back is the new iPad, also due on the 16th, although mistakes at couriers can sometimes allow individual shipments to slip through.

Thursday delivery
My FedEx info says a Thursday delivery for the Apple TV, a day earlier than Apple said. The iPad (new) is still slated for a Friday delivery, however.
