iHome adds AirPlay-capable iW2 speaker to lineup

updated 12:10 pm EDT, Wed March 14, 2012

iHome iW2 has AirPlay, charges iOS devices

iHome has unveiled its second AirPlay-capable speaker, the iW2. The minimalist speaker is focused on playback and will take audio over Wi-Fi from iTunes and any AirPlay-capable iOS device. If they're needed for extended periods, they can be charged directly from the iW2's USB port.

Setup is purportedly quick through an iHome Connect app (free, iTunes), though users need to plug in their iOS devices to the iW2's USB port to get started.

A 3.5mm auxiliary input jack exists for users to connect other sources. A remote control is included, and an Ethernet jack is present as well to more easily put the iW2 on the network. While system wattage isn't specified, the twin SRS WOW HD-certified speakers are housed in Reson8 chambers.

The iW2 will ship on April 1 for $200.

    order with care

I bought the iW1 (after waiting for over a year for it to be released) and it's a barely functional product. The iW2 is probably better, but I wouldn't personally ever buy anything from iHome again.
