Motorola says Droid X2 won't get Android 4.0

updated 07:05 pm EDT, Tue March 13, 2012

Once flagship smartphone not on the list for ICS

Motorola has delivered some bad news to owners of its Droid X2 smartphone. In response to a Better Business Bureau complaint over firmware updates and locked bootloaders, the company said it has no plans to upgrade the phone to Android 4.0. It also confirmed that it would not be unlocking the bootloader for the device.

Although Motorola reassured the customer that it would continue to support the phone, it added that the Droid X2 was "not on our list of devices that are slated to get Ice Cream Sandwich." Any further updates would be minor fixes for Android 2.3, which the phone shipped with just a few months before Android 4.0 went live.

The Droid X2 is technically capable of running Android 4.0. Most of Motorola's 2011 lineup is getting the upgrade, although many American models won't get 4.0 until summer at the earliest due to long test times with carriers. [via Droid-Life]
