Leak tips familiar 8AM launch for next iPad

iPad still due at 8AM across the board

A quick confirmation has supported beliefs the new iPad is getting an 8AM launch on Friday. Following a Houston store opening's similar schedule, 9to5 was sent artwork for a storefront poster showing availability the same hour. If in line with its past habits, Apple is likely to make 8AM a common opening hour worldwide when malls and local laws allow.

Third-party stores won't necessarily follow suit and could open at a more common 10AM.

The early openings are both meant to drum up interest as well as to minimize conflicts. At 8AM, eager buyers near the front of the line still have an opportunity to get to work that morning. It helps Apple take care of more sales during the day at the same time, which has the side benefit of pumping Apple's first-day sales figures.

Duh, the rest of the world exists too...

Do take your heads out of your "no world exists beyond America" thinking for once. It's also very likely the 8am time in the US fits in with later hours in Europe and Asia so that the launch can be simultaneous worldwide. That would fit with the change from US first, then a few other countries, then a few more etc. If they're going for all at the same time, 8am everywhere wouldn't be the same time everywhere, it would just be the same clock time.

    You realize there are

several different time zones in the US as well, right?

I'm not suggesting there aren't other places in the world. I heard tell of them in grade school, but I wonder...

Let's all go to the Apple store and look at all the geeks who feel the need to get the iPad 3 immediately! Otherwise, they might not get a new ipad for like a month! And that's just stupid!
