Samsung confirms: Android 4.0 reaching Galaxy S II in Europe

updated 09:50 pm EDT, Mon March 12, 2012

Samsung says Galaxy S II gets Android 4 Tuesday

Samsung in a quick notice from its core Twitter account confirmed the numerous false-start rumors of the Galaxy S II getting Android 4.0 this week. As of Tuesday, European phones, at least those in Hungary, Poland, and Sweden, were getting the Android 4.0 update. Korea was getting it at the same time, and it would "gradually roll out" to other countries.

US updates may come late given hardware differences in the phone, although those buying the international model unlocked should get it faster.

In the meantime, it added that the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Tab 8.9, and Galaxy Tab 10.1 would get updates "soon."

Old phones wouldn't be moving to Android 4.0, but they would be catching up to Android 2.3, Samsung said. The original Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab, the Galaxy S Plus, the LCD-equipped Galacy S SCL, and the Galaxy W would get the more than year-old release before the end of March, although they would fill in some features.

The update comes four months after Android 4.0 first appeared on the Galaxy Nexus, but just in time to meet an early 2012 target.
