Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 may tackle iPad's 9.7-inch size

Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 slips through FCC

An FCC filing has given away Lenovo's plans for a previously unannounced tablet that would show the company trying to take on the iPad more directly. The IdeaTab S2109 would have a 9.7-inch, IPS-based, 4:3 ratio display like its Apple counterpart, although it's more likely to have the 1024x768 screen of the iPad 2 than an exotic greater-than-HD panel. Its design would be unusually power-thirsty: the FCC labeling would point to a 12.5W power, or more than the 10W maximum carried by most tablets.

Unofficially, the tablet is expected to run Android 4.0 and use a TI OMAP processor. Media would be a focus, as it would have four SRS-capable speakers much like the K2010. A microSD card slot is visible in the FCC's labeling scheme.

The S2109 could be ready as soon as this month. Whether or not it launches in the US isn't certain, although Lenovo has made an effort to launch at least some of its Android tablets in the US. [via Engadget]

Are engineers allowed to name consumer products? Maybe Lenovo is hoping people will confuse IseaTab with iPad

    So...

Copying the old iPad's specs (aside from the fact that the iPad 2 is likely much faster and more powerful). Cool. Wait, not cool because it consumes more power than higher end devices.
