US iPad shipping times stretch to 2-3 weeks

updated 09:35 am EDT, Mon March 12, 2012

End of March now earliest delivery date

Shipping times for the third-generation iPad have ballooned to two to three weeks at Apple's US online store, checks show. All models are affected, regardless of color, capacity, or connection options. As late as Saturday or early Sunday, Apple was still promising US deliveries by March 19th.

Apple appears to have produced a large amount of units for launch weekend, which starts on the 16th, but the sudden leap in shipping times may suggest that Apple has finally exhausted most or all the stock manufactured in the months leading up to the new iPad's announcement. Some countries beyond the US hit the two- to three-week delay earlier this weekend.

    ...but Apple only had

about 500,000 iPads available for pre-order so they would deliberately run out of stock to build up the hype and frenzy and generate two block-long queues at Apple stores for the iSheep media.

That's what the iHaters always say when Apple runs out of stock on a product.

Judging by the downgrades you got I would suggest a smiley or something for the irony immune.
