Medfield phone places well in browser tests

Browser benchmark tests performed at CeBIT by Caschys Blog on a Medfield phone reveal strong performance. The handset, due out at carrier Orange in France this June as the Santa Clara, was tested using Rightware and Vellamo. In the former, which measures JavaScript and HTML rendering performance, it beat out the iPhone 4S' 87801 score, at 89180, while falling behind the Galaxy Nexus' top 98272 performance.

The Vellamo test, created by Qualcomm, uses 11 individual measurements of the various hardware and software components that contribute to a mobile browser's performance. The phone ranked third overall, behind the quad-core ASUS Transformer Prime tablet and more conventional Xiaomi Mi-One Plus, but ahead of the Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Motorola Xoom, among many others.

The Intel phone was reportedly running on a 1.4GHz version of the Atom Z2460 processor (which is usually rated at 1.6GHz) and 1GB of RAM. It had Android 2.3.7 preloaded on its integrated 16GB of flash memory where at least the Galaxy Nexus had the advantage of Android 4.0. [via NetbookNews]
