Apple runs out of launch-day new iPads in US

updated 02:50 pm EST, Fri March 9, 2012

Apple now pushing US iPads to March 19

Following international stockouts, the US Apple Store now dry of new iPad stock. Orders for any version, regardless of capacity, color, and wireless, now only have a promise they will ship by March 19. The date is roughly the same as in other countries and points to Apple having a second major shipment ready for most countries.

International shipments have seen the gap widen to as much as two to three weeks for numerous countries, not just the UK.

How many iPads Apple will have shipped by the official release is still an unknown, and might not be mentioned until after the launch weekend at the earliest. The launch day was enough to crash Apple's store servers for much of the immediate aftermath.

Apple is expected to have much more stock for launch than it has in the past. Publicly, it plans to launch in ten countries where it has previously had to limit its scope. Rumors have had Apple readying up to 9.8 million for the launch window, although not all of them would necessarily ship for March 16 even if true.
