NVIDIA wants proof new iPad trounces Tegra 3

NVIDIA upset it may lose to Apple in mobile GPUs

NVIDIA responded to Apple's claims of performance for the new iPad. Representative Ken Brown told ZDNet that NVIDIA didn't have the benchmark criteria Apple used to claim a fourfold speed advantage over the Tegra 3 processor. As such, it couldn't verify the authenticity of the claims, which it implied might have been biased through the choice of apps.

It was still "certainly flattering" to have been referenced during the event, Brown said, but there were "so many issues" to hash out with Apple's claims.

Some evidence exists to support Apple's point of view. Benchmarks of the ASUS Transformer Prime, the first mainstream Tegra 3 tablet, showed it being outpaced by an iPad 2, a device nearly a year older with a dual-core processor and dual-core graphics. Android 4.0 will have improved its speed in some respects, but the Tegra 3 is still likely to be trailing significantly behind the new iPad's quad-core video and upgraded base processor.

Apple may face more of a competitive threat from the Samsung Exynos 5250, which will use the brand-new ARM Cortex-A15 architecture and new graphics. It won't start shipping by itself until later in the spring, however, and may only reach the market months later.

    Misdirection at its best

Yup, have your competitors focus on a battle of spec sheets, while knowing all along that it's the whole ecosystem and user experience that wins the war.

    Mine's bigger than yours...

Prove it. Whip it out! The boys are going at it again. I knew Apple should not have mentioned anything about the Tegra 3 since I knew there would be some response that required absolute proof. Apple needs to lay off mentioning any rival products since it doesn't really need to use other products as a benchmark. I know I've already seen benchmarks of the iPad 2 being faster than some tests than the Tegra 3 but it wasn't by all that much. Still, it' a lot more relevant to have the extra speed in real-life use.

They are correct. This is the internet and you can make all the claims you want, but somebody is going to come along and call you a liar and demand to see proof. If you can't back up your claims with evidence then you are just spitting nonsense.
Apple should release benchmarks against similar systems and release the benchmark tools as a free download to allow others to conduct their own benchmarks and validate Apples claims.

    NVIDIA spin

The way NVIDIA were talking up the Tegra 3, the fact that the original A5 processor remained more than competitive shows that Apple know the A5X blows the Tegra 3 out of the water. The proof will come when Anandtech get a hold of it. Apple's Intrinsity and PA Semi acquisitions are paying off in spades.

    Mac usage?

Is it feasible to use these in Macs? I love the idea of passively cooled GPUs. I hate hearing the GPU fans in my Mac Pro. How would these compare to current GPUs from ATI and Nvidia that are in desktops? Thanks.

    Tegra lineup is over rated

Since the first gen, the Tegra made a lots of media coverage, but ever failed as enduser product. Beside blowed specs I found very little facts about Tegra performance.
