updated 12:20 pm EST, Tue March 6, 2012

Optimus Vu now in Korea for near $900 equivalent

LG's Optimus Vu smartphone is now shipping at its home market of Korea. The LTE phone's five-inch, IPS display sports a rare 4:3 aspect ratio and a 1024x768 display. The potential competitor to the Galaxy Note competitor otherwise 8.5mm thick and weighs 0.37lbs (168g).

Processing power comes from a 1.5GHz, dual-core processor (likely a Snapdragon), and Android 2.3 is preloaded onto the 32GB of storage space. Korean users can pick up over-the-air TV broadcasts thanks to the T-DMB antenna. There are two cameras, with an eight-megapixel shooter out back and a 1.3-megapixel device in the front. The battery is a large 2,080mAh unit. The Vu also gets a DLNA-compatible HDMI output.

The phone is priced at 999,900 won (about $890) in Korea without a carrier discount. Other countries will get the new Optimus as well, although whether or not that includes the US is still undetermined.

Not a competitor to the Note.

The digitizer is just capacitive, the battery is smaller and the 4:3 aspect ratio - well the photo speaks volumes...
