Google snaps up Play web domains, hints tablet plans

updated 11:45 am EST, Fri March 2, 2012

Google's upcoming tablet may be called Play

The rumored Google tablet that may arrive in April could be called Google Play. The indications of this come from 18 domain names registered on February 29 at MarkMonitor. While who registered these names hasn't been revealed, Google uses MarkMonitor for its own websites, including Google.com.

The names include googleplaybooks.com, googleplaygames.com, and gamesonplay.com, among others. If nothing else, they indicate Google could offer a wide variety of multimedia content on a particular service or device, including games, movies, books, videos, TV, periodicals, and more.

None of the domains are yet live web pages, however.

The tablet is expected by the unofficial sources to sport a seven-inch, 1280x800 touchscreen and ship with Android 4.0 or later onboard. [via Fusible]
