Kobo one of the first to launch eReader app for W8

Kobo has announced that it will be one of the first eBook retailers to have an app featured in the Windows Store ready for the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. The app is built on HTML 5 and Java Script and offers users a tailored central location where they can manage their Kobo reading experience across devices. The app also presents with users a revamped UI and a new library view offering easier search.

The new Kobo eReader app for Windows 8 also follows Microsoft's aim to have tight cloud integration by offering users access to their whole library from anywhere with an Internet connection. Users can read books purchased from the Kobo store on their PC as well as on Windows 8 Consumer Preview-based tablets.

'We believe consumers want choice and the freedom to read on any device. Building great eReading apps and working with leading manufacturers such as Microsoft is a recipe for success in this quickly growing market," said Michael Serbinis, Kobo CEO. 'This latest collaboration is a continuation of Kobo's 'Read Freely' philosophy, where we provide a world-class catalogue, complementary mobile apps and a global infrastructure suitable for any market,' he added.

The app can be accessed from within the Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
