Flipboard 1.8 brings Cover Stories to iPad, new layouts

updated 02:30 pm EST, Thu March 1, 2012

Content guides reach out to international readers

The developers of Flipboard have released a significant update to the iOS app, v1.8. One important change is the carryover of Cover Stories to the iPad; the feature was previously limited to the iPhone interface, launched on December 7th. Cover Stories pages highlight material from across multiple feeds, based on popularity.

A third page of tiles has meanwhile been added for favorites, and layouts have been upgraded with fullscreen images and new typography. At first launch, the app will now prompt people to pick topics of interest to automatically seed content. Readers outside the US have been given access to special international Content Guides, tailored to different regions. Supported regions so far include Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, France, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Flipboard is a free download. Devices must be running iOS 4 or later, and using at least an iPhone 3GS, third-gen iPod touch, or iPad 1.
