Lenovo stops selling netbooks online in favor of tablets

Lenovo latest to stop carrying netbooks online

Lenovo on Friday stopped selling netbooks through its own website. The models that were depleted won't be replaced in the web store "in the near future," the computer maker's rep revealed. Whether the netbooks will continue to be sold in retail stores hasn't been detailed.

The netbooks are being phased out due to the popularity of tablets, like Lenovo's IdeaPad K1 and IdeaPad A1. Both are sold online, and Lenovo said it's "generating good traffic" on the devices.

Netbooks, or basically mini notebooks with low-power processors and screen sizes that don't often grow past 10 inches, are losing ground to tablets, which are more convenient and have even longer battery life.

Lenovo is the latest computer maker to shun netbooks, with Dell stopping altogether, while Acer and HP greatly reduced the netbook models they offer. [via Computer World.
