Chat client expands reach

Samsung has released an web-based version of its ChatON messaging utility, expanding the potential reach beyond native apps for popular smartphone platforms such as Android and iOS. Users can now switch between mobile devices and desktop browsers without breaking away from Samsung's messaging service.

The web-based client brings the same basic features as the native apps, with support for simple text communication, multimedia sharing, and emoticons. Users can also take advantage of on-screen drawing and location-based features.

ChatON native apps are currently available for a range of mobile platforms including Android, iOS, Bada and BlackBerry.

Users can sign up for the web-based service on Samsung's ChatON website, however the registration system is said to first require a native app on any of the supported hardware platforms to receive the necessary registration code. [via Sammy Hub]
