Hands on: ZTE PF100 10.1-inch tablet

updated 05:35 pm EST, Mon February 27, 2012

ZTE's latest Android tablet

Mobile World Congress primarily serves as a venue for mobile phones, however the event has become increasingly popular for tablet unveilings. ZTE launched several new tablets, including the 10-inch PF100, alongside a number of new phones. Electronista stopped by the company's booth to see how the device compares to other Android tablets.

Like many devices introduced this week at MWC, the PF100 is powered by NVIDIA's 1.5GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor. Android 4.0 is presented on a 10.1-inch display with 1280x768 resolution, falling behind other large tablets that now offer 1920x1080 resolution.

We found the PF100 to be extremely fast and responsive, however the build quality appears to be the worst that we've seen on any 10-inch tablet. The demo unit may be a prototype device, but it appeared to have the back and front half of the housing glued together at the seam. Most companies would not even show a device that was in an early prototype stage, leaving us to wonder if the production models will be improved.

The PF100 is an equal competitor to alternative Tegra 3 tablets in terms of performance, however the price would have to be significantly below the going rate to make up for the apparent quality issues.
