iPad 2 being deleted from Best Buy inventory systems

updated 06:10 pm EST, Mon February 27, 2012

Retailer enters clearout mode

Best Buy is taking the step of deleting the iPad 2 from its inventory systems, a leak at the retailer indicates. One screenshot reportedly shows a white 32GB model as deleted, but the source of the leak claims that other models have also been removed. The change comes alongside a confirmed $50 discount on all iPad 2 models.

The retailer is believed to be treating the iPad 2 as an end-of-life product. If so, it might support other claims that Apple will announce an iPad 3 during the first full week of March, and ship it shortly afterward. The iPad 2 originally shipped on March 11th of last year.

    makes total sense

The iPad 2 came out about this time last year and Best Buy knows what it is like for sales when a release is rumored to be so close. They can't return unsold products and they don't want to have to take even more off to clear out stock so they have almost certainly stopped ordering more stock and are trying to get rid of whatever they can now while they will stick make a decent profit.

All off rumors as Apple doesn't tell their resellers anything about upcoming releases. Too much of a risk that the information will be leaked and the shots of dummy skus are bad enough

    iPad 3 pricing

The basic price is rumored to go up with about $80, that is good news for models in stock. I hope Apple keeps the iPad 2 on sale for about $349-$399 to capture the low-end, they didn't do that with the iPad 1 probably because being able to use Facetime is a must.
