Second MWC phone with quad-core

HTC has formally unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the One X, which follows Huawei's Ascend D as another quad-core phone introduced this week at Mobile World Congress. Confirming earlier rumors, HTC chose to stick with NVIDIA's Tegra 3 chipset that will serve as the basis for several different high-end Ice Cream Sandwich devices from various manufacturers.

Other hardware features include a 1280x720 "Super LCD 2" display that spreads 4.7 inches from corner to corner, protected by a layer of gorilla glass. An eight-megapixel camera with autofocus and an f/2.0 lens adorns the back, while a 1.3-megapixel shooter has been outfitted on the facade.

As expected, HTC utilizes its own Sense interface to customize the basic Android 4.0 layout, though the overlay has been updated for the latest OS build. Users will also be able to take advantage of three touch buttons below the display.

The One X is expected to arrive within the next 60 days, though the Tegra 3 model will not support LTE. Like Huawei, the company plans to offer a dual-core variant that does support LTE and has been confirmed for AT&T. Pricing for either model has yet to be announced.
