Microsoft killing Live ID, Zune brands from Windows 8?

updated 03:55 pm EST, Fri February 24, 2012

Live ID, Zune brands won't appear in Windows 8

When it launches the Consumer Preview of Windows 8 at MWC next week, Microsoft will have done away with two long-standing brands, The Verge found out. The Windows Live brand will be gone, replaced by similarly functioning Windows Communications apps. At the same time, Microsoft Live ID will now be known as Microsoft Account, likely with some minor changes and improvements.

The new OS will also no longer contain any reference to Zune, although the Zune Pass feature is retained. The Windows Store, Music, and Video apps in Windows 8 don't contain any mentions of Zune. "Xbox Live for Windows" will likely eventually encompass all entertainment for the Windows 8 OS, replacing the forgettable Music, Video, and Games label.

The simpler Microsoft brands will mirror the Metro interface looks, with People replacing Windows Live Contacts, Calendar replacing Windows Live Calendar, Photos now Windows Live Photo Gallery, and Music replacing Zune Music Player, among other, similar changes.

Microsoft killed off its Zune range of media players last fall.

    The WOW starts now..

Ok so everything sort of works the same but will have all new names, links, access points and may work differently....

So, is it still Windows and do I really care anymore. If everything is different, wouldn't this be the time to check out Mac and Apple???

    Just wondering.
