Motorola Cliq 2 gets Android 2.3 a year later

Motorola Cliq 2 users who may have been holding out for an update to Google's Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS are on the verge of getting their long awaited update from Android 2.2 (Froyo). First released in late 2010, Gingerbread has since been superseded by Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Nonetheless, Motorola has announced that it is recruiting 1000 customers to try its latest Motoblur-inspired Gingerbread variant before a final release is issued to all remaining Cliq 2 users.

The Motorola Cliq 2 was launched in mid-January 2011 and sports a 1GHz processor, a 3.7-inch display and a 10.1Mbps 3G radio. It includes a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and shipped with a 2GB micro-SD card. It was one of the first Motorola devices to launch with Motos DriveSmart app, which toggled the device into muting call and text notifications, as well as offering an automatic text response.

The belated update to the Cliq 2 comes after the Samsung Continuum, which also shipped in January last year, also just got its long awaited update to Android 2.3.
