Google Docs for Android gets collaboration, rich editing

Google Docs for Android gets major upgrade

Google gave a treat to Android users by updating Google Docs for Android (Market) with a major interface revamp. The new version adds the real-time collaboration of the web version to let those on a phone or tablet make and see edits alongside others. Users only have to tap into editing mode to be marked as involved.

The update also brings long-requested support for rich text editing to add elements like italic fonts or lists, including with new layout tools. The interface now has multi-touch zoom and shows both cursor presence and highlights.

Google Docs' requirements haven't changed and will let it run on any phone or tablet using Android 2.1 and up. Tablet users on Android 3.0 or later already get an optimized environment. To date, the platform is the only one with a native app, although iOS users can both edit and view files on the web.

    Alternative's to Google Docs

Hats off to Google and Android. Using documents offline, editing, going online and updating is really interesting. This will be very helpful for my tablet. I see a lot of traction with new entrants in the market, one such tool is CollateBox http://www.collatebox.com/ waiting for this with lot of productive application.
