Amazon pulls 5,000 IPG e-books over argument

Amazon has taken almost 5,000 Kindle e-books from distributor Independent Publishers Group (IPG) off its web store after a disagreement between the two on renewal terms. IPG wouldn't agree to Amazon's new terms, and was warned of the consequences, IPG President Mark Suchomel told PaidContent. The distributor's offer to Amazon is the same it has been in the past, but Amazon reportedly wanted more.

Suchomel said all other retailers continue to buy IPG titles, with Amazon being the sole exception. Publishers that are clients of IPG are said to support the distributor's decision not to give in to Amazon's demands and give more profit margin away.

Chicago-based IPG provides marketing, sales, and distribution of books from nearly 400 publishers. Print versions remain available for purchase on Amazon's online store, and other stores continue to offer the e-books.
