Verizon cuts HTC Rezound, LG Spectrum down to $100

Verizon entices buyers ahead of WMC

Verizon has made a surprise move to cut the pricing of the HTC Rezound and the LG Spectrum LTE phones down to $100 on a two-year contract plus a data pack at a minimum cost of an additional $30. The price drop comes around just a month after the LG Spectrum first launched on the network and around three months since the HTC Rezound first arrived. Both devices carry high-end specs and expected to be upgraded to Android 4.0 sometime after March.

Both LTE phones are powered by 1.5GHz dual-core processors and centre on 720p-capable displays. The HTC Rezound centers on a 4.3-inch S-LCD panel, while the LG Spectrum opts for a 4.5-inch IPS LCD panel, giving way to the Rezound in pixel density in offering a larger size. Both also carry 8-megapixel rear cameras that can shoot video in 1080p. In addition, the Rezound offers Beats audio enhancements for music enthusiasts.

The new entry price is said by Verizon to be available until the 28th of this month. It is likely that set against the launches of the Galaxy Nexus and the Motorola RAZR and RAZR MAXX, that both devices may have not had the same profile in the minds of consumers, leading to the price cut. It is likely that with the World Mobile Congress looming next week, where a slew of new Android smartphone announcements expected from manufacturers, including LG and HTC, Verizon may be hoping to capitalize on any buyers already interested in the devices, but who have been undecided until now.

At their current prices, the HTC Rezound and the LG Spectrum will also carry what will amount to a $200 price advantage over any new smartphones that launch on the network following the WMC announcements. Typically, high-end Verizon handsets retail for $300 with a new two-year contract plus $30 data pack.
