MakeMusic intros free Finale NotePad sheet music app

Supports up to eight instruments

MakeMusic has introduced a free sheet music creation app for Mac and Windows, Finale NotePad. Based on the company's flagship Finale software, NotePad lets users produce notes, lyrics, and markings for compositions, the main limitation being an eight-instrument cap. It also handles functions like clefs, key signatures, and instrument transpositions.

The app supports keyboard and MIDI input, and can import MIDI, Finale, and MusicXML files. Export options are similar, but include printing, and posting music to the Finale Showcase website. To test compositions, the software includes 128 software instruments; a Human Playback feature mimics some of the touches of a live musician.

The Mac version requires OS X 10.5 or later, while Windows users must have at least Windows XP.

Not to be negative, but this is REALLY old news. NotePad has been around for years.

It is "old" but I think that they went to a paid model for note pad, and now perhaps they are offering it for free again?

    Back & forth

Notepad used to be free, then they started charging for it, and now it's free again. I like free, especially since I just paid for it a few weeks ago. Eh...I've spent $10 on stupider things.
