Dev demos desktop version of mobile game

A mobile developer is currently demonstrating a Windows Phone app that is claimed to have been ported to Windows 8 in just two weeks. The word puzzle game, AlphaDrops, is said to retain 90 percent of its original code when transitioning to Microsoft's upcoming desktop and tablet OS.

The ported app was shown running on a Samsung Series 7 Slate running a developer preview of Windows 8, which was provided to attendes at Microsoft's BUILD conference. The developer, Rick Walrond, notes that the quick port is limited to single-player functionality, though he is considering adding the multiplayer option in the future.

Windows 8 takes advantage of the same Metro-style UI that is found in Microsoft's current mobile OS, though the company has yet to officially support the porting process. The process is expected to be simpler if developer tools are released for such a purpose.

Microsoft is preparing to release a consumer preview for Windows 8 later this month at the tail end of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. [via Neowin]
