AMD Radeon HD 7750, 7770 GHz Edition hit entry level video

AMD unveils Radeon HD 7700 series

AMD took its Radeon HD 7000 series to the starter level quickly on Wednesday. The Radeon HD 7750 and 7750 GHz Edition step back in visual processor counts versus the 6700 line, from 720 and 800 cores to 512 and 640 respectively, but make up for it through more than a year's worth of technology. Both the new overall architecture and a shrink to a leaner 28 nanometer building process let the 7750 and 7770 climb to 800MHz and 1GHz core speeds (up from 700MHz and 850MHz).

The new hardware generation appropriately gives them double-precision math (FP64) support the earlier chips don't have at all, along with PowerTune to cap the maximum power to no more than 100W on the Radeon HD 7770. They still share the 128-bit memory bus and take a very slight step back to 4.5GHz effective for their 1GB of GDDR5 memory.

Either board still has the full common feature set of the 7800 and 7900 range, such as DirectX 11 (OpenGL 4.1) visuals, OpenCL, and Eyefinity multiple display support.

Stock boards won't necessarily be afford able at first, but at $109 and $159 for the 7750 and 7770 will be the least-expensive, fully modernized designs from AMD. Computer builders are likely to bring the two to pre-assembled systems in the near future, although none have been outlined so far.
