Microsoft brings MSN iPad app to US, Canada

updated 03:00 pm EST, Thu February 9, 2012

Incorporates Bing, Messenger, Hotmail

Having originally launched it in the UK, Microsoft has finally brought MSN for iPad to the US and Canada. The app mainly presents MSN articles in a magazine-style format, divided into categories like News, Autos, Video, and Entertainment & Celebrities. An offline mode can be toggled for reading away from Internet access.

An unusual feature called Lasso lets users launch a Bing search by holding a thumb in an article margin and then circling a word or sentence they're interested in. Microsoft also promises "quick access" to Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger, plus special photo slideshows. The app is a free download for iPads running iOS 4.3 or later.

    Really date yourself . . .

I know that there are a few old fogeys out there who still use MSN but really, do you want to date yourself by loading that app on your wonderful iPad? You may as well also sign up for AOL while you are at it.
