Olympus OM-D leaks early at Amazon Japan

Olympus OM-D shows face early

The Olympus OM-D had some of its details spoiled after Amazon Japan (cached) briefly posted a product page with photos. True to form, the Micro Four Thirds camera will be a tribute to the OM-4 with the retro look and tall box above the lens. Instead of a mirror system, though, this space would have the rumored 1.44-megapixel electronic viewfinder, putting it in a more natural position than the corner position on other mirrorless digital cameras.

The shot also confirms a battery grip for the camera. Its tilting back OLD display is also on view.

Many other details are confirmed by the tip, including the freshly upgraded 16-megapixel sensor, five-axis image stabilization, and a weatherproof body. Some details, such as performance, have been left out. It's still expected to be a superset of Olympus' previous best camera, the E-P3, and shoot faster with better noise tolerance.

An event is expected on February 8. Most camera makers formally announce major new models the night before an event, however, leaving details more likely to be public then. [via 43 Rumors]
