Micron CEO Appleton dies in plane crash at 51

The Chairman and CEO of semiconductor maker Micron, Steve Appleton, died in a small plane crash in Boise on Friday morning. Details of the crash weren't immediately known. He leaves behind wife Dalynn and children. Appleton joined Micron in February, 1983, becoming an officer in August of 1989.

He sat on the board of directors from April, 1991 to July, 1992 and then since May, 1994 until now. Between September, 1994 and June, 2007, he served as the CEO, President, and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Since June, 2007, Appleton served as the Company's Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. He also sat on the Board of Directors for the National Semiconductor Corporation since 2001.

It wasn't clear who would stand in temporarily for Appleton.
