ZTE's first US tablet, the Optik, at Sprint soon

Last month's leak of the ZTE Optik 3G tablet coming to Sprint this month proved true. The seven-inch, Android 3.2 tablet has a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor and will cost just under $100 on a two-year data plan from the carrier. The screen has a resolution of 1280x800, which is high for its size.

Otherwise, the tablet gets 16GB of storage space and 1GB of RAM. There are two cameras, with a five-megapixel one mounted on the rear and a two-megapixel facing the user. Swype is preloaded as an option for the touchscreen keyboard. The tablet has a GPS sensor, Wi-Fi, a microSDHC card slot, Bluetooth 2.1, and stereo speakers. A 4,000mAh lithium-ion battery powers the tablet.

The design is Chinese hardware maker ZTE's first in North America. Sprint brings its own Sprint Zone, Sprint TV, Sprint Music Plus, Sprint Navigation, Sprint Football Live, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile apps and services.

Contract-free, the tablet will cost $350. Sprint offers a $20 plan for 1GB of data per month, $35 for 3GB, $50 for 6GB, and $80 for 12GB. A mobile hotspot option that can connect up to five other devices from the tablet is priced at another $30 per month.
