Ricoh GXR gets 24-85mm, 16-megapixel camera module

updated 06:45 pm EST, Thu February 2, 2012

Module integrates APS-C sensor

As expected, Ricoh has finally introduced a new 24-85mm, f3.5-5.5 lens module for its GXR camera. The A16 module, which was announced late last year, pairs a wide-angle zoom lens with an APS-C sized, 16-megapixel CMOS sensor and image processing engine.

Earlier reports suggested the module takes advantage of a Sony sensor, potentially matching the chip used in the NEX-C3, however Ricoh has yet to officially confirm the component supplier. The module is the first in the GXR system to utilize the APS-C sensor size that is popular with many DSLR cameras.

Ricoh has yet to announce pricing details surrounding the A16 lens, though the module is expected to ship before the end of March.
