Apple seeds Safari 5.1.4 beta to developers

updated 03:10 pm EST, Thu February 2, 2012

JavaScript, plugins, PDFs among focus areas

Apple has begun seeding a beta Safari 5.1.4 release to developers. Mac and Windows distributions are available, although if not on Snow Leopard the Mac version requires OS X 10.7.3. The Lion and Snow Leopard disk images measure about 44MB and 47MB, respectively, while the Windows ZIP file is 109MB.

Developers are being asked to concentrate testing on three main areas. The first is JavaScript, which Apple says has enhanced performance in v5.1.4. The second is plugins, and in particular the look of zoomed-in content; developers are urged to try out gestures and keyboard shortcuts. Apple is lastly interested in PDF printing, and links in PDF files created from Safari webpages.
