Firefox 10 reaches Android

updated 06:20 pm EST, Wed February 1, 2012

As expected, doesn't support flash

Mozilla has released the latest mobile version of its browser for Android devices. Firefox 10 is now available for download (free, Android Market). As expected, the new version offers enhanced HTML5 support, but doesn't support Flash.

New features include implementation of anti-aliasing for WebGL, as well as supporting accelerated layers through OpenGL ES. The app has also fixed several bugs affecting how it handles HTML5. Mozilla has made it easier to set up Firefox Sync, its service for synchronizing bookmarks, history, passwords, and open tabs with another desktop or mobile device running the browser.

A lack of Flash was partly expected. In November, Adobe announced that it was stopping development on the plugin, acknowledging that HTML5, which was being pushed most by Apple, had become the de facto future standard for creating and deploying content in browsers running on mobile platforms. Adobe
pushed out its last version
of the app, Flash 11.1, in December to support devices using Android 4.0. [via Android Central]
