Unofficial Android 4.0.4 leaks out for Nexus S 4G

The Nexus S 4G may soon get an update to Android 4.0, as indicated by a leaked ROM for testing on Google's servers. While it's since been removed, one developer over at the XDA Developers forum managed to get his hands on the code and shared it. The software carries build number IMM26 and will update the handset to Android 4.0.4, which isn't officially on any device.

The file on Google's servers included release keys, suggesting it's weeks away from an official release. No official word has emerged from Google about the latest version of the OS and its availability, however.

As the update isn't official, installing it does take some know-how, as well as the bravery to potentially brick the handset. It requires rooted ROMs and an uncommon installation procedure.

The Nexus S 4G uses Sprint's WiMAX network for a fast broadband connection. It's otherwise identical to the regular Nexus S and uses a 1GHz sinlg-ecore processor, a curved four-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, dual cameras, and 16GB of built-in storage.
