Treemo Labs announces Appafolio app creation platform
updated 10:00 pm EST, Tue January 31, 2012
Intended for portfolios, galleries, presentations
Appafolio is a new app for the iPad and iPhone that enables users to create gallery-type portfolio apps in order to share photos, videos, artwork, catalog or product images or other presentations with other iOS users. Developer Treemo Labs has used the same tools found in Appafolio to develop apps for Beyoncé, The Roots and other clients. The resulting apps are not sold on the App Store but are available via the free Appafolio app itself or through the Appafolio web site.
The idea behind the app is to replace hard-copy presentations with "apps" that are made with no technical knowledge required. Users create their presentations in Appafolio, then give the unique passphrase to anyone who also has or obtains the Appafolio app so they can view it. Changes in the gallery-type presentations can be made by the author at any time and are automatically updated without user intervention.
The resulting "apps" offer pinch/zoom functionality, customized launch screens, links to the creators' social, e-mail and map URLs, a side-scrolling user interface with portrait or landscape orientation, and the ability to save the Appafolio app once downloaded for offline viewing.
The Appafolio service is free, and there is no charge to build the first app. The iPad version is still considered to be in beta and does not have all the features of the website tools yet.
