EasyLock v2 offers secure encryption on multiple platforms

updated 02:00 am EST, Thu January 26, 2012

Supports Mac, Windows, openSUSE and Ubuntu

CoSoSys has updated their portable data security solution EasyLock to version 2.0, bringing with it cross-platform support for Mac, Windows and openSUSE and Ubuntu flavors of Linux. The program uses 256-bit AES encryption (CBC-mode) to turn any mobile drive into a secure data vault. Version 2 also sports a re-written user interface focusing on ease of use. The program can run off the USB or portable drive itself, requiring no installation or admin password.

Users simply drag files they wish to have encrypted onto the drive with the program on it, which then creates the encrypted file, which can be de-crypted by the program on any supported OS. It can optionally be set to delete itself if the password is incorrectly entered a set number of times. In conjunction with another of CoSoSys' products called Endpoint Protector, EasyLock can also be used to encrypt files being sent from one point to another on a corporate or local network.

The video (seen below, requires Flash) demonstrates how the program works to protect data in a real-world situation. It works with portable hard drives, including iOS devices that have been set to act like removable drive. The program requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later, Windows 2000 (SP4) or better and openSUSE 11.2 or higher. It costs around $22.25 (US price approximate due to the vendor pricing in Euros) per license.
