updated 09:35 pm EST, Thu January 26, 2012

Motorola Xoom sequel now shipping as Wi-Fi-only

Motorola has sent an e-mail to its customers indicating that it has started shipping the 10.1- and 8.2-inch versions of its Xoom tablet sequel, the Xyboard. The company has also made the devices available for purchase through its webstore in two storage sizes for each device. The Xyboard 10.1-inch will cost $600 (32GB) and $500 (16GB), while the Xyboard 8.2-inch will cost $500 (32GB) and $400 (16GB).

The Xyboard tablets use 1280x800 pixel IPS-based LCD displays that offer wide viewing angles and are more color-accurate. They are both powered by 1.2GHz TI OMAP processors and run Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) with an expectation that an Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update is just around the corner.

Its rear camera has a 5-megapixel resolution, while its front camera is capable of capturing images and video in 1.2-megapixels. The 8.2-inch model also offers high-powered speakers for a video-first focus.

Motorola is currently offering free shipping for purchases over $75 through its site.

    Anoher doomed product....

why are they bothering? Surely they can expend their efforts elsewhere. Unless they price their Xyborg, Xyphoen...whatever the heck it is called at $200 or less then they are wasting their time. I can only suspect Google are bank rolling this lemon to keep it in the marketplace until they can produce their own Motoral Nexus tablet....problem is that the they will be officially shafting their OEM customers of the ilk of ASUS, ACER, Shamsung, etc.
