Panasonic adds SX and NX, also intros J10

Panasonic today unveiled two 12.1-inch notebooks in its home country. The Let's Note SX1 and SX2 offer Intel Core i5 processors in a compact, ruggedized magnesium form factor with batteries that provide up to 16 hours of run-time. Panasonic is also offering the J10, a 10.1-inch laptop targeting business customers.

The SX1 Series integrates a 1600x900 screen with a 2.6GHz Core i5 using vPro, a DVD burner, 4GB memory, and a 720p webcam. The base model comes with a 250GB hard drive. A mid-level model replaces the HDD with a 128GB solid-state drive. Its battery life through the flash drive edges up as a result, to 17 hours. The top of the line model adds WiMAX 4G, albeit at the cost of a slightly shorter 15-hour battery life.

The NX1 comes in three configurations. Unlike the SX1, the NX1 comes without an optical drive. The processor is a slightly less powerful 2.5GHz Core i5. The base model comes with a 250GB hard disk drive. The upgrade model adds a built-in fingerprint sensor. A top-end third model offers a 128GB SSD in addition to WiMAX.

The J10 is designed to meet the specific needs of mobile businessmen. The 10-inch notebook is powered by a 2.3GHz Core i3. It comes with the same 250GB disk as the entry level NX1 and SX1 notebooks. As with the NX1, it's not equipped with an optical drive. It does feature Panasonic's fingerprint sensor. Battery life is up to a more common 7.5 hours.

Panasonic will begin shipping the NX1, SX1 and J10 series notebooks to at least Japan starting February 24. The company has not set firm pricing, but may bring one or more models to the US as Toughbooks. [via Impress]
