Droid RAZR MAXX gets confirmed release schedule

Following unintentional slips, Verizon on Tuesday confirmed that the Droid RAZR MAXX will be on shelves this Thursday, January 26. The extra-long lived 4G smartphone will be the new high-end version of the RAZR and carry the 32GB that was cut in half to lower the price for the original design. A RAZR MAXX wil cost $300 on a contract like the original 32GB version.

The new version is noticeably thicker, at just over 0.35 inches thick, but makes up for it with a possibly record-setting 3,300mAh battery. Motorola claims a 21.5-hour talk time and enough power to play multiple HD movies. The MAXX could also be the first LTE-based smartphone to have a truly long battery life for data use.

Both versions share a dual-core 1.2GHz TI OMAP chip, a 4.3-inch, 540x960 Super AMOLED screen, and both a front camera and a rear eight-megapixel camera that can handle 1080p. Android 2.3 still ships on the MAXX, although it like the original should get Android 4.0 earlier in the year.
