Apple plans company town hall with 'exciting new things'

updated 08:05 pm EST, Tue January 24, 2012

Apple plans internal town hall on Wednesday

An escaped internal e-mail from Apple CEO Tim Cook intercepted at 9to5 has made allusions to possible insights for 2012 plans to staff. Following the iBooks textbook launch and record quarterly results, Cook was holding a company event at the company's Town Hall theater at 10AM Wednesday. Cook and staff would review what Apple had done, but they would also discuss "some exciting new things going on at Apple," he said.

The event would be company-only and accessible through the internal AppleWeb system, but important enough to be broadcast both to various offices in Cupertino as well as "other" areas.

The CEO's language could have multiple different interpretations. While a window is open for the comments to refer to future products, he could be referring to the iBooks and iTunes U developments. He may alternately be referring to strictly corporate-related developments that won't impact the public, such as benefits or organization.

It's not known whether or not such Town Hall meetings were commonplace before Cook took over. He has more regularly sent out company-wide e-mail, though, and has been more willing to brief the company outside of key intervals.
