Windows Phone reaches new milestone in quick timeT

The Windows Phone Marketplace has reached its latest milestone, cracking the 60,000 app barrier. The figure comes some 14 months after the launch of Windows Phone 7 in October 2010 when it launched with just 1,000 apps. It had reached its previous milestone of 50,000 apps at the end of December showing a sudden acceleration as it has added a further 10,000 apps in just the past 25 days.

With the sudden spurt in app growth, a third of the Windows Phone Marketplace has been added in the past 90 days. When the Marketplace reached the 50,000 app milestone, it the platform boasted around 13,000 developers - the number of developers now exceeds 15,000. It can be observed that the acceleration of app development has coincided with the release of Nokia's first Windows Phone 7 smartphones, including the Lumia 710, the Lumia 800 and the forthcoming Lumia 900 flagship.

While the recent growth in the number apps being developed for the platform suggests that Microsoft and its major partner in Nokia have reason to be optimistic, they still trail Apple's iOS platform and Google's Android by some margin. At the most recent count, Apple had well over 500,000 apps in its App Store, while Android had in excess of 250,000 apps. [via Neowin]

    almost as many....

Almost as many owners. Can't wait for October to see their tablet OS. Only 5 years behind Apple and Google, with smartphones, and only 3 years behind with tablets. Way to go Microcopy, you true innovator or is that copy cat? iPad 3 in March time, iPhone 5 in Aug-Sept. Microcopy might be even further behind when these two puppy's come to market.

    How Nokia's sales goes lately?

What kind of milestone this article is trying to cheer up? Do we need to know this for every 10,000 marks?

BTW medias are very quiet about Nokia sales and overall WP7 market performance.
