Redesigned navigation, new search, more
Software maker SubRosaSoft is now offering the latest version of its Mac-based forensic analysis tool, MacForensicsLab 4.0. The company says it has re-written the app to take full advantage of built-in Mac OS X technologies such as Core Data, redesigned main window navigation, improved its bookmark management and auditing function and now offers a new search function. The new version now requires a USB authorization device to work.
The software, which is aimed at law-enforcement authorities and investigators, retrieves and identifies data from hard drives, flash drives and other media and can preserve or recover data from corrupted storage drives. The software even includes a Skin Tone analyzer which can quickly zero in on images that may be of evidentiary value, identifying people or illegal activity.
The new interface is designed to be more streamlined, allowing examiners to carry out tasks with fewer clicks and improve their workflow with more auditing control and other improvements. The program compiles its findings into an industry-standard SQL database for easy collaboration and evaluation.
The program requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later and works on and with both PPC and Intel Macs. The program now comes with a USB license dongle which will be supplied to upgrading customers. MacForensicsLab is priced at $1500, and customers who bought after October 20th 2011 are entitled to a free upgrade. Other users can upgrade for $500. Evaluation versions are available to licensed law enforcement officials and media.
