Would premiere idea in UK for first time
Apple is planning to bring its store-within-a-store concept to the Harrods department store in London, England, sources within the latter company are said to claim. The store is a significant tourist attraction in the city, thanks to its unique architecture and size. Harrods spans 5 acres, with about 1 million square feet of showfloor space.
Like other store-within-a-store efforts by Apple, the presence in Harrods will reportedly involve signature signs and wooden tables, but not a Genius Bar. The Harrods sources speculate that Apple wants to keep Genius Bars a trademark of its independent outlets, of which there are several in the London area alone. Regardless, the Harrods space will allegedly be larger than the typical store-within-a-store in an American Best Buy.
A Harrods expansion would represent the first time Apple has exported its store-within-a-store plans to the UK. In the US Apple has mostly limited the idea to Best Buy, but recently kickstarted a growth into Target outlets.
