Samsung outs new basic phones with two Star 3s

Samsung has released successors for its entry-level Star II handsets with the Star 3 and Star 3 Duos. Both handsets are virtually identical, with the Duos adding a dual SIM slot. They have three-inch, 240x320 displays, and are 11.5mm (0.45in) thick.

The phones each have a 3.2-megapixel rear camera and can play back mcommon media formats. An FM radio is also embedded, as is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Only EDGE (2G) data works, however. The 20MB of available memory is supplemented by a microSDHC memory card slot. Power comes from a 1,000mAh battery.

The cross-platform ChatON social network service is preloaded, along with access to Facebook, Twitter, Google Talk, MSN, and Yahoo accounts.

The new phones ship in Russia at the end of January, before reaching Europe, Latin America, Africa, CIS, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The Star 3 Duos will also arrive in Southwest Asia. Prices haven't been announced, although both are likely to be low-priced even off of a contract.
