Motorola Xoom users reporting Android 4 update arriving OTA

Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi users get ICS update

US Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi users are now reporting that they are starting to receive the promised Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update over-the-air. They now join Xoom early adopters who owned the Google Experience version of the tablet who received a special early update last week. The major update has arrived relatively quickly to the Xoom as it was loaded with an unskinned version of the Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) software.

Motorola had tweeted that they would release Ice Cream Sandwich updates starting 6 weeks after Google released the final version of it, which arrived on Monday 14 November. While slightly behind schedule, and given the previous track record of getting major updates out to Android devices generally, Motorola has managed to deliver what can be considered a timely update.

Google recently admitted that it had rushed Honeycomb out the door so that it had a tablet OS to compete in the iPad-owned tablet space. Although it was the first Android OS to support multi-core processors, its interface still suffered from the infamous Android lag. Android 4 has proven to be offer faster browsing capabilities, better multitasking and app killing functionality, as well as offering a much slicker overall user experience. [via Android Central]
