LG's latest premium notebooks

LG is among several computer makers that have unveiled ultrabooks this week at CES in Las Vegas. Electronista had a chance to try out the company's new premium notebooks, the Z330 and Z430, which are labeled "super ultrabooks" and feature compact housings and a metallic silver finish.

The Z330 is the smaller of the two, packing a 13.3-inch display into a chassis that is said to be equivalent in size to 12-inch notebooks. SSD storage enables the notebook to achieve quick boot speeds of just 10 seconds and standby recovery in just two seconds. We liked the hardware, though LG appears to be using faux-aluminum plastic in many places that competitors are using real metal.

The Z430 steps up to a 14-inch display but in a 13-inch chassis, which measures 19.9mm thick and weighs a total of 1.5 kg (~3.3 lbs.). The notebook features hybrid storage, pairing an SSD for speed and a HDD for capacity.

We like both of the Z-series ultrabooks, which will likely be competitive against many of the other similarly-sized notebooks introduced at CES. Reception may hinge on pricing, however the company has yet to release a specific launch date or MSRP.

Oh those stickers are so classy!

I like the big fricking blue ULTRABOOK sticker. It diverts your attention from the Windows and Intel Inside stickers on the other side of the keyboard.

Ask any four year old. Stickers make everything better!

    Sticker ≠ Performance

It's like painting black "racer" style strip on a econoline truck, appearance can be deceiving.
