Apple's Greg Joswiak caught scouting competition at CES

Joz caught snooping on the opposition at CES

Apple's head of iOS product marketing was spotted by journo Tom Kratiz of Paid Content on the floor at CES 2012. Kratiz was wandering around the Las Vegas Convention Center on Tuesday when he bumped into "Joz" just adjacent of Sony's booth. He apparently "grinned sheepishly" after realizing he'd been recognized and stopped briefly to chat about what he'd noted.

Joswiak admitted that he was at the show to check out the way the other tech behemoths went about presenting their products including the way they put together their booths and the general look and feel of their respective showcases. While not going into specifics, Joz was apparently underwhelmed by what he had seen at the Sony booth.

While Joz was wearing a tag that revealed who he was and his company affiliation, it was strategically concealed. Although it is hardly surprising that Apple would be taking an interest in exhibits at CES (although it is not exhibiting there at present), it is somewhat unusual to see a relatively high-ranking exec from the notoriously secretive Cupertino company caught spying on rivals.

    Give me a break

Of it was Google IO then I could understand the story but this is an industry event where individuals AND companies attend.

    Oh yeah, THAT'S news.

This just in: Phil Schiller was spotted eating a bagel. Cream cheese. What does this mean for the imminent release of the iPad 3? One can only guess.

    It's a trade show!

It's a trade show not a prison. Those infantile name-tags (that I always stick in my pocket) are a courtesy not an obligation. To suggest that Joswiak was "concealing" his tag is facile and juvenile. Grow up MacNN.

    Jozwiak is WAZNIAK!

what the article fails to mention is that this was actually Wazniak in his super hero costume, mistakingly thinking he was attending the 2012 comic con convention.

    Joswiak... Greg Joswiak

So let me get this straight... an industry wide event (and open to the public) is attended by an Apple employee (with a badge on) and that's spying? In other news... an Apple "Genius" was recently caught attending to business at a Starbucks urinal. One can only conclude that Ives and co. will soon be unveiling the new "porcelain throne" aesthetic in Apple Retail restrooms.
